Adria Ferries hosts the FAI Ancona “Anthropocene” conference on board the AF Mia
On Monday, November 10, the AF Mia welcomed over 60 participants from the FAI (Italian Environment Fund), Ancona Delegation, for an event dedicated to learning about and protecting the marine environment.
The initiative was the result of collaboration between the head of the FAI delegation in Ancona, Monica Manzotti, and the management of Adria Ferries, which immediately welcomed the proposal to make the flagship ship available to host a conference of high scientific value.
An exclusive visit on board
Participants were welcomed at 5:00 p.m. and taken on a guided tour to discover the main public areas of the ship: restaurants, bars, cabins, and suites.
The tour then continued on the outer decks, from where it was possible to admire the Ancona skyline from a new and evocative perspective, ending on the bridge, which was exceptionally open to the public for the occasion, where the Captain illustrated the functions and features of the bridge.
The scientific conference
The conference entitled “Anthropocene. Man wants to control the Earth but is he really capable of doing so?” opened with a welcome address by shipowner Cav. Lav. Alberto Rossi, followed by presentations from the two speakers. Prof. Francesco Regoli, Director of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (DISVA) at the Polytechnic University of Marche, explained how human activities are transforming marine ecosystems and explored the issue of emerging pollutants and new challenges for protecting the health of the planet. Dr. Gian Marco Luna, Director of CNR IRBIM, explored the topic of biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea, illustrating the challenges associated with the conservation of marine resources in an area that is rich but highly exposed to anthropogenic pressures.
At the end of the conference, guests were served a buffet of local seafood products.
Adria Ferries is pleased to have contributed to the success of an initiative that combines scientific dissemination, promotion of the territory, and maritime culture. Collaborations such as this confirm the Company's commitment to promoting opportunities for discussion and knowledge on issues that are fundamental to the future of the environment and the communities bordering the Adriatic.
